Creative Commons

First of all about this video, I thought the animation and graphics were pretty cool. Also, I didn't really know that it was that easy to get a copyright on things. As an educator, I think that this movement opens up more ways to be creative. Some of my ideas or any other teachers ideas can be copyrighted and then if published they can be reused by other educators. Like in the video, it talked about a teacher, a writer, and an artist. Any of these professions who produce certain work and it is copyrighted and sent out there for everybody to use makes a difference in the world. Sharing your ideas gives other people insights, even if they are not in the same profession, your ideas can open up new ideas for other people.

People build and use critical thinking based off works that are published. It opens up new doors. Without people sharing their ideas in books and other published work, students wouldn't be able to learn from other people's experiences and so forth. I think it is great that in this generation, people are free to express themselves more and there are more and more resources out there for people to use.

Mr. Winkle Wakes

Mr. Winkle Wakes was not at all what I expected when I saw that it was something we could post a blog about. I was expecting it to be a short, cartoon-ish video. My opinion about this video is that yes, over 100 years, everything has changed. The cities are built up, technology has come long, long way. If I woke up after 100 years from today, I don't know what I would awake to. There would probably be people flying in airplanes like it's nothing. A computer would probably be the size of an iPod, which it almost is considering our cell phones can almost do it all.

The one thing that I thought was cool was that it showed how school and learning still has the same core meaning. We go to school to learn and explore. No matter how much technology will interfere with how we teach, we still are teaching the same values and concepts that you will always learn throughout life and society, not matter how many years go by. We may change HOW we teach, but we won't necessarily change the meaning. Yes, things will be added to what we teach because the world is constantly changing, but the meaning of learning will never change.

Reflection

My first blog posting, a reflection of my experiences with projects we have done thus far. I even want to state my opinion about future projects. First, I would like to share my experience with the portaportal. I do think that it is a good organizing tool for keeping up with websites to know where you get information. It helps keep up with good lesson plans and activities to do in your own classroom. My downfall is that I don't know if I would actually use it. To me, I can just bookmark commonly used websites to my favorites online and use the websites from there. If I were to stay super organized in that aspect, I would probably use it. I guess we will see. :)

I do like this new thing of using blogs. I have always heard of people using them and a lot of my friends who have just got married use them to keep people posted on how married life is. To me, using blogs would be good for the students to reflect on projects in the classroom. They can look at each others ideas and do a lot of collaborative learning. As for myself, I think teachers having blogs is a good way to reflect on their teachings for the day. Instead of writing it down, why not use technnology? I definitely can see me using blogs to reflect on my lessons and figuring out what I can do better or change for the next go round.

I am pretty excited about learning how to make websites. I think that I will have a lot of fun designing it and having the knowledge of it will help me to create one for where ever I get a job. Besides making hard copies of information to parents, a website with the same information not only makes sure the information is provided for parents, but also for people who still like old fashioned paper and who use computers all the time. :)

I am learning a lot in this class and look forward to learning more! :)
